I can't "fix that" as *you* started a new thread within an existing one. Yes, if you started a brand new thread it would have shown up on the home page, a perfect place for it. Whether as the start of a new thread or part of an existing one, both are open to the general public. If you wanted a private conversation I would suggest the private conversation feature (top right).
