General Discussion Sensitive emojis?

I don't see anything wrong with 'thumbs up'. Instead, I think sometimes the 'rolleyes' and the 'unsure' emoji are a bit offensive. Sometimes 'rolleyes' brings me a feeling as if it is used for teasing someone, and I have seen people offended by it. As for 'unsure', I think it is the most offensive emoji in the forum. In my opinion, more like it is used for judging other's thoughts rather than being used for expressing the feeling of 'unsure' (More like is used for 'unsure' instead).

 

@D.S.Masters - Your question does raise an interesting idea. I recently received three 'Inappropriate language' warnings where one was on the day of and the other two were almost 2 months old. The rules ask us to be friendly with our comments and therefore one would have to ask, Are the provided emojis inline with the rules? For example, :mad: - this mad face isn't too friendly or - this one can easily be taken the wrong way.

Using positive language and adding in a or also doesn't seem very fitting.

As to reporting something that you found offensive, just relax for a while and think about the remark. Is it really unfriendly or just an honest feedback?
More often, sugar-coated comments do more harm than good.

In my country the thumbs up gesture was a really offensive thing but now people use it like normal Americans do. I don't think if it needs to be taken down in this forum; but I think some emojis just need a change to them.

Edit: I just used the "smiley face" and the emoji that appeared really freaked me out for a second.

@cimarronline - This comment was made because I had received a warning for not being friendly enough so I was just making a point that the forum isn't designed to be friendly.

It's like the rating system. One and two star ratings would be insulting to any author if they actually thought their level was 5 stars. Another flaw in the system. Most players will skip such a low rating but I'm a firm believer that authors will never know if you don't tell them. Yes, that can be harsh but sometimes reality hurts but one can improve because of it.
