I'm looking for an easy way to copy the address of a specific post/comment, in order to link to it from elsewhere. Most forums that I've used have a link on each comment that can be copied for this purpose - so that when you run that link, it opens up the thread and positions the browser at the start of that comment.

@nGord, is this available on this forum? I've noticed that each comment has an index number, so I'm pretty sure everything else that's required is there.

If there isn't any way to switch this feature on, then does anyone have a way to identify the index number of a specific comment?

In the interests of organisation, I'd like to suggest a new forum called "Forum Help" , for threads relating to tips and problems using the forum features (including this very question). It can also be used to post news about forum updates and forum software upgrades.

@trids The URL for each forum post is right at the index number -- simply right-click (or press and hold) on it to copy the link. ;)

@cpw - Aha! Thanks - that's exactly what I was looking for. On the mobile version of the site, it's not there... In portrait orientation. But i see now that it does appear in landscape orientation!

Thanks - i hardly ever use landscape.

In portrait on mobile, one can press-and-hold on the date and time of the post (either in top-left in the turquoise bar, or bottom-left below the text) in order to get the direct post link to copy. ;)

Exactly why we created an "Ask the Moderators" thread. But since no one seems to be using it, perhaps a whole separate subforum as you suggested is required. It has crossed my mind, but at this time I do not have the permissions to restructure the forum. In my education on how to manage the forum, I did find that each page footer has a Help link to a page that could also potentially be edited to included FAQs. I would also need special permissions that I currently do not have to edit that section. So that makes three options of which we went with one that we could affect. I'm open to suggestion or encouragement to ask for more forum permissions from @NeoCHI.

Obviously we are already using a special forum for that called Announcements. Are you saying that this forum should be renamed?

@nGord - I'm just noticing that as the community grows and posts increase, it's getting harder to find things. And the solutions I'm seeking tend to be ones that other, larger, forums have already implemented. Which is why I'm suggesting things like this.

A single thread is soon going to become cluttered, as we can already see from the funky mechanisms thread. Which is only a sign that it ought to evolve into its own forum.

As for the "Forum Help", there may not be many posts to the "Ask The Moderstors" thread, but I've noticed quite a few posts about forum features - filed all over the place in the absence of such a forum.

If you do implement a new "Forum Help" subforum, then it would be a good sibling to "Announcements".

@trids - I understand you and agree. I will thus push to see if I can get permissions to affect the structure of the forum from @NeoCHI. Thanks for the help and encouragement.
