Witch's House

Our duo is on the lam after their thieving escapades (in The Heist). They are hiding out in a remote lake house they found on Airbnb. R-Bot would like go out for a sail. Unfortunately, they rented the house from a witch.

      Nice use of redirection. Tricky but not too complicated. Very satisfying to make B dance!

      B-Bot is claustrophobic and does not like low ceilings. If he is made to stop under a block which touches the top of his head, he will if possible, move automatically on his own to a location with a higher ceiling. The first case I'm aware of where this behavior was noticed and documented is here. It was spotted on Level 27 ("A Maze in 3D") of the original Mekorama set.

      While I was developing my Wizard's Spire level I discovered that when B-Bot is moving on his own this way, he will travel over stair blocks as if they are normal solid cubes. The ceiling in the witch's house is only 2 block high which triggers the auto-focus effect for the entire space inside. There are 2 hidden stair blocks in the house which prevent the normal touch focus method from working on 2 of the doorways. Also with more then 2 doorways in play, the auto-focus algorithm has to make a choice of which doorway to send B-Bot to. Fortunately, the auto-focus routing algorithm is deterministic, as the bot will always follow the same path given a particular layout. The cool thing is that it can auto-focus to normally illegal paths (i.e. ones with stairs in them).

      I must say, the effects that came out in Witch's House are pretty dang spooky. I actually only threw that 4th doorway in at the very end the design and was quite surprised by that tunnel behavior.
