What Goes Up

A fun level (I hope). I'd like to thank Don't Rowe for his always patient counsel and thoughts. Thanks also to Richard Fu, whose "Spirits" inspired this level. Richard, I hope you like it! Enjoy!

      | It's a big and stable level. It's good for beginners to learn the abilities of B under the circumstances when performing the
      autopilot correctly, the last jump from the highest draggable, and moving B upwards with rotating draggables, all in one package.
      +1 for the instructive steps.
    • Black1226
      Thanks very much, Laurence! Not sure about the instructive steps, you must mean the solution spoiler. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Actually, the tunnel depended entirely on B's claustrophobia.

      @Black1226 | I'm referring to the things players could learn while performing several steps in the level.

      I'll give you five stars too. I thought you had sufficient adventure for B to make it a worthwhile play. And the setting was different. The part that I liked the most was the fully stable way to play the level including the difficult to implement ghost step at the end. Well done!
    • nGord
      @laurence.gr - I'm not sure how you solved the level, but I don't see any need for exploiting Autopilot or Claustrophobia. Only if you solved it using @gmacpro's circumvention at the end would you need Autopilot Falling.

      Well I suppose in full definition, the first jump trick is a flavour of exploiting Autopilot, but I've always known it as a more of a tripping hazard. One does not need to understand how Autopilot works to be able to bump B sufficiently to get him off the platform there.

      The second operation is simply dragging B against an obstacle to cause him to fall down. This was an original mechanic found in Level 30, "Jungle Gym" and Level 35, "Head Trip."

      From there, tap near the Ghost Maker to have B walk through the underwater tunnels. And the Ghost Maker is a well known exploit of B's balance. No exploit of Claustrophobia that I can see anywhere. ;)

      That being said, I don't know what we should call having B revert from ghost mode so as to stop on the top platform. Technically this is exploiting Autopilot again, but we've been seeing it simply as B hovering around.

      I can see, however, how you can conclude that Autopilot needs to be exploited in the level. :thumbsup:

      I hope that sheds some light on some terminology.
    • laurence.gr
      | @nGord thank you for clarifying the terminologies. I did it differently and I thought the last step from the highest draggable is due to claustrophobia as B won't jump that long in normal circumstances without a block above his head. I just don't know the right term for it, well, I'll have to edit my previous comment so as not to confuse other players.
    • Black1226
      @nGord Thanks very much, nGord! And for the terrific rating.
      The claustrophobia I refer to re the tunnel is that the tunnel is two blocks high and one block wide. Once B is inside, he will go to the end without fail. This may not be termed claustrophobia, it might be autopilot. Unsure. In any cases, thanks for explaining some of the terminology. level, which is where I first saw this engaging state. He calso used the slider, so perhaps claustrophobia does play a part.

      I hope I did that right!

      @laurence.gr
      I think you might be right. (See my spoiler directed to nGord.) I'll ask Richard to shed a l..ittle light on it, or just copy his explanation of the hovering state in answer to a xquestion re Spirits. I don't think you have confused anyone, it's simply a matter of terminology.

      Nice and simple level with some interesting tricks. I really like the clean style of the architecture. Good job! :D
    • nGord
      @Black1226 - Claustrophobia is the effect of tapping below a low ceiling and then watching B go to an exit from there (if there is one that still satisfies his path preferences of going straight, then E, then W, then S, then N). In your video you did not tap below the low ceiling. Instead you tapped on the green grass beyond the exit. Thus you simply tapped B to a spot. No fancy algorithm involved, nor exploit of one.

      @richardfu_ Thanks very much, Richard! And thanks for the terrific rating. It means a lot, coming from you.

      I hope you were not disappoint with my twist on your hovering state. Seems that other members like it, although they disagree on exactly what to call it! And I appreciate your remark regarding the architecture. I like to make my levels attractive with clean and clearly defined lines. The fact that you noticed is rewarding.

      Regards,
      Amy

      @nGord
      I'll have to consider your explanation, I'm sure it makes excellent sense. The last part you made was spot on. But a player would have tkapped on the ceiling or two blocks inside the tunnel with the same result. Actually, I originally designed the tunnel that way, but changed the corner to a drop instead of a second ju mp, at the urging if a friend (thanks, friend!), probably making that impossible. I will ponder and muddle my way through the compass points, and let you know when I sign up for a physics class at UNC!

      Just to clarify, my B didn't enter hover mode so auto pilot was the only option at the end. If hover mode would have occurred then I would have dealt with it but it didn't. Since winning, I reattempted to get B to hover but although B did hover it was a localized one (where B would turn corners etc and not take to the air) so attempting to go to the win, B landed on the wedge and still needed a nudge.

      Nice but it could have been more gone up;)

      Thanks for playing my level, Leader99, and welcome to the forum! Thanks for the great rating, too!

      By more gone up, I assume you mean a little longer?
