Ball Island

Inspired by @Ricko and the brilliant 1x1x1 level.

@hadi Thanks so much for mining my back catalog.

I am obviously not looking at this level in the right way. I have had it out periodically over the last 3 days and still I'm no closer to solving it then when I first began. Probably further away since I'very stared at it for so long. I think I understand what my goal is but I'm not seeing a way to achieve it. I keep waiting for that "Oh, duh" moment to strike me but it obviously keeps missing. Can someone help that moment hit its mark?

@Don G Rowe Thanks for the swat upside the head. My first thought when reading your spoiler was: " I know all that so how is it of any help?". But I went back and looked at the level again. Instead of concentrating on what I thought needed to happen, with the previously mentioned knowledge in the back of my mind, I focused on just what you said. It took me a few more attempts, including some reluctance to give up on including the red herrings, and then I got it. To make sure I had solved it rather than just happened on some dumb luck, I did it again two more times. Bravo to you for creating something so relatively simple that got my brain totally stuck. A very good case of a complete inability to see the forest for the trees.
