Yes, good call re: making it the opening move. Other areas got finicky for me as well. More tips from me:
0:35 in the video. As demonstrated there, stand several blocks away from Z and wait to tap on Z's head until Z is ready to walk away. Any closer, or tapping any earlier might get you zapped b/c Z might be too close as you fall.
2:40 in the video. I think the stablest way to get R on Z is to wait until Z has turned around after long-legging & is about to walk away from the rail (similar to the previous hint) and then grab the draggable. Wait until R steps onto Z and release the draggable. (I still had R fall off sometimes, typically requiring a restart, but this made it happen less often.) Of course, make sure the ball is moved forward so Z can leave that area!
2:52 in the video, after R rides Z and Z gets frozen. If you don't knock the ball while R is still on Z's head, grab the draggable to keep R from walking onto Z's head while Z is unfreezing, which will probably mean you have to restart. Also, don't knock the ball too hard, or it will keep rolling when it bumps the other ball to unfreeze Z and then R won't be able to get back down (restart). Grabbing the draggable might help slow the exiting ball to help the other ball stop where it should. The video at 2:49 showed the flapper hitting B and B hitting the ball, like croquet balls, but with this method it's easy to hit it too hard. I was sometimes able to hit the ball without B there, although it was often too soft (and yet occasionally too hard!).

I finally got it to where I could beat this twice in a row. Re: the title, there are three draggables that are used to hold bots in place. If you watch the video, pay attention to where these are used (the dots go white) -- that's easy to miss. There's a lot to keep track of in your mind besides the tricky logic & the cool & unusual moves.

Along those lines, my (probably final! sorry if it's too much -- I really wanted to feel like I'd mastered this level) tips:
I didn't use this one unless
R walked over P's head, which happened from time to time. What that happens, holding P in the up (long-legs) position will allow R to get back on track. (You can also hold P in the down position to R from walking over P in the first place, but that was too much for me to keep track of.)
The most important use of this is to freeze Z. As I mentioned above, for R to mount Z, it's best to hold Z in place just before Z is ready to walk and then release the hold when R mounts. You can also hold Z in place to make it easier for B or R to get past Z.
The most important use of this is to keep R from accidentally getting back on Z's head after getting off. The second most important use is at the very end when
B has mounted R and is going for the final star. You can hold Z in place to herd the B/R stack.
      Thanks for sharing, @mastersifu !
