Parallel Lines
D.S.Masters, Nov 4, 2020
MomoKeego, cimarronline and delator77 like this.
    • D.S.Masters
"Parallel Lines" was the 3rd album from the punk / new wave group Blondie, coming out in 1978. It was their first successfully commercial album, hitting #1 in the U.K. and #6 in the States, mainly due to the disco hit "Heart of Glass".
Blondie's first two albums had been punk oriented and hadn't done well, but producer Mike Chapman took the group in a new direction with "Parallel Lines", making them more pop than punk. Singer Debbie Harry didn't like him at first because he was from L.A. and they were from New York, and supposedly she hated the album cover.
Some of their other hits include "Call Me", which was the main theme for the movie "American Gigolo". However, my favorite song of theirs is "Atomic" (from "Eat to the Beat"), closely followed by "One Way or Another" and "Hanging on the Telephone" (both from "Parallel Lines")... I definitely can't stand "Rapture".

Very FUN & clean logic level...It took me a while to figure it out & of course was worth it:rolleyes: Thanks for sharing @D.S.Masters ;)
Btw,ahh, have I ever told you that I love your designs? Uuhhmm, I have doubts:rotf:

Okay, who are you and what have you done with @D.S.Masters ? That was really complex. Bravo.:eek::eek:
    • D.S.Masters
@delator77 Yes, Asier, you've told me about my designs. :)
    • D.S.Masters
@Don G Rowe Interesting... I didn't think of it as complex, but then, I know what goes where when - the curse of the builder, I guess.

Although a no tricks lv but not easy to see the gameplay, took me a while to figure out, maybe that's the reason why less player finished. After finished this lv I feel @Star Penguin in here. I'll remember this lv. Awesome.
    • D.S.Masters
@Sun Eagle And that's where the strangeness of building comes in... because I built it, I know how everything goes, what moves are needed, so I don't think of it as a complex level.
When playing, it's easier to handle the bots one at a time, instead of having them all run around at once, and of course, they're interchangeable, for the most part.

Hey...that’s the toughest level I’ve ever played of yours. Took me a lot of tries...but so happy I cracked it! A tour de force...

I have to agree with the others. Been playing this level off and on for a week, now, and just finished with a win. It got so I could perform all elements other than the final move easily, and spend the final minutes, try, try, trying to set up the final move. I would always have something, or someone, would fall just at the critical moment, to force it all over again. Took me a week, but satisfying.

This just goes to show that well-done levels have craft, without having to be crafty (just because designers have an obscure trick at hand doesn't mean it needs to be used). Some designers just rely too heavily on the tricks; your levels make a pleasurable game without them.
    • D.S.Masters
@wbogacz I use tricks every once in a while, but usually just when they add to a level. As for as the final move in this...
when everything is in place, when all the balls are in the correct spots, put the R bot of your choice on that small lift (near where the center balls fall) and lower it - then B can get into position between the nearest ball and the inset stairs under that central section... easy herding after that.
    • wbogacz
@D.S.Masters - Very true. When I tried that way, it removed some racing around and made the final moves coalesce more evenly. Designed with player comfort in mind. Thanks.
    • D.S.Masters
@wbogacz Herding R bots is one of the things that I like the least, so I usually try to make it easy for myself (I have to play test it, after all), which usually makes it easier for other players.

Added a video solution to the first Comment...
    • wbogacz
@D.S.Masters Thanks for the video. Viewing it tells me I made my win unnecessarily complicated. You used the elevated traverse to bring in Z and R, and use them sparingly. I brought them into the mix right from the start, and of course, they muddled my solution.
