Great logic level . I was so busy redirecting R it was only near the end i found i had the balls in the wrong place but was able to half autopilot to squeeze one to its correct spot so no restart required. The step/fence/step was a great help in working out the gameplay.

Basically true. Something I picked up from @cpw a couple of years ago in one of his R bot demos, R can walk on any block that he normally couldn't after going down stairs, even if said block is at the same level as the stairs, because of his off grid ability... but that block after the stairs must have a block under it, or R will turn around. However, if R steps onto a piece of horizontal fence or a rail after the stairs, then the space under that piece must be empty, or R won't walk on it.
