@Sunny Sunset @richardfu We should set an end date for this so we have a clear winner. I personally don't care how long it goes, but we can't have any ambiguity or someone will call foul.

How does 5 days sound? Tuesday July 5th, @ Noon Eastern Daylight Time

    Too short,
That may not be enough time to get a clear majority… Or many votes at all
The results may not be statistically significant.
What if there's a tie among only 6 votes?

A lot of people don't log in but once a week.
(@NeoCHI Is one example...I think. And our other mod has not logged in since June 4, I'm getting worried)

I made these two threads sticky so that Newcomers will see them immediately as well.
I think 20 to 25 votes would be a good number.
If we get that much within a week, sure we'll close it within the week.

But if we only get six votes in five days, that just isn't a good cross-section of what the majority of members want.

But it is a good indicator that people don't care enough to get involved...

    Compromise suggestion:
5 days, with extension for another 5 days if less than 20 votes are cast. Then whatever is the answer is chosen no matter the number of votes.

    I like that one, sure.
Let's evaluate it in five days ...and hope people care

Ok just to be clear. If we have 20 votes in by June 5th at Noon EDT then we will consider the result final. Otherwise, we will extend the voting until July 10th @ noon EDT. Am I right?

Well, since you put it that way… Sure, I think we can get enough votes in that length of time…
And then we'll have 8000 levels to catalog!
    Such a deal!

One day to go, one vote short of 20. Let's hope it comes in!

Agreed. Looks like "someone" is going to have learn the system he's been avoiding understanding after all. ;)

We also need to get the terms better defined, better names. My original list is tentative, and so far no one has added any constructive feedback to the list itself. It will be posted as a FAQ when done.

Has anyone looked at the other puzzle classifications I sent the links for?

@Sunny Sunset I haven't, but that's probably because I am one of the proponents of difficulty-based sorting :) There is still a (really slim) chance that the people will decide the right thing ;)

I released a level yesterday partly inspired by your argument on your of level. Will be ingesting to see how it is classified (maybe a category called "beyond classification" or similar?)...

I think we are all hoping that someone will "do the right thing"..... Whatever each of us believes that right thing actually is. LOL

What is the name of your level so that I can find it? At the moment "OTHER" is the catchall for the unclassifiable … Or at least ones that the other moderators can't figure out ..that I get to look at ...ha ha

If it's the one called "harder and harder", someone has already tagged it and did a good job. It's an easy top level for "puzzle", because you have to figure out what the motive is before you can even get started. I added 4 tags to what was there, bbot, rbots, draggables, and windmill.

I did the original tagging. And tagging isn't my question to that method, rather deciding which one to be the to level classification...

I've asked to be demoded yesterday. No more need to mention me.

Interesting… Yesterday I was going to request to be demoted from moderator as well because of all our bickering... But when I noticed the vote was starting to go in my favor, I couldn't just leave and have people stuck with trying to figure my system out, that just wouldn't be right.

Once people get trained in it, and understand it better, then I can leave it in capable hands. Personally, I'd just prefer to work on the categories and not be a moderator at all.

    Ah! OK!
The top level classification is the "focus" of the level. This one "focuses" on being a puzzle (lots of things to think about, approaches, etc...plus the TIME to sit and think) even though it has a lot of different elements from other categories. When one element tends to dominate the level, that often becomes the top level "focus". This level, has no one thing that stands out as a focus, other than the puzzle aspect.

The puzzle category IS going to be a large one… So we really need to work on finding finer points to break them down into more subcategories than I have, so that the pages don't get unwieldy.

You did good… go tag your other ones, and I'll go check your albums, and see how you did. ;) You may possibly be one of those with the "eye" for this system.

You have an advantage, in one way, in that you know what your original intent was for the level. Some people really don't know what their intent is, they just like to create things

My hope is that when people start seeing the levels displayed on the specific category pages, they will "catch on" to the "pattern" of thought that put it into that category. That will make it easier for creators to choose a proper category once they "catch on" to what we're looking for.
