I wanna make hard levels but I cannot make it without tricks
Here's my little level that includes the most 4 common (and stable) tricks in Mekorama.
- Low Ceiling (block on top of B, he will walk over it)
- Autopilot (while B walking, move the slider)
- SSS (when B between the stair and the ground, tap)
- SBS (works as SSS)
I've found that a great way to build a level is to make some kind of solution first and then build the level around it.
Essentially building the level backwards.
1st Learn the simple tricks.. like Autopilot , low ceiling etc.. as @Zedket showed above..
Then combine them:
You can easily make hard levels without tricks .. by requiring very tight timing to achieve the win. But this is a lazy and bad thing to do!
Don't do it if you want happy customers .
Also avoid relying too much on randomness, a little bit goes a very long way and can end up being irritating instead of exciting.
Are you sure? I had fun with @meko's Timing Problem as just one example. But then again, the timing was the puzzle (and not some irritating part of an otherwise logic or adventure level).
It's a fine line indeed.
Much wisdom is required.
Happily the are more satisfying ways to make challenging levels than relying on timing alone, even if you don't know any tricks yet.
