As usual with some of my posts, this may be in the wrong area... but I'll trust the Mods (who know what they're doing) to put in the right place.

So... why do you like to build / design levels?

For me, it's just to build - I like putting things together, and in the old days (80's & early 90's) I was known for my work on 'Zeus' and 'Railroad Tycoon 2', including levels / adventures that are 'famous' in those communities. So why do I build? Why do I create levels? Because I can. Now that I've finally figured out how, I build levels. They may not be perfect, they may not be 5 star (and Lord knows there are a few people out there who will tear any level to shreds), but I don't care - I build these levels for myself. I build them, I play them, I like seeing everything come together; I do it for myself to have fun, and that's all that matters. If other people enjoy my work, that's a bonus; I try not to take any comments personally, which isn't always the easiest thing.

It's fun in different ways - for one, you're trying to achieve a goal. For another, you're trying to get others interested in your work. For yet another, it's fun working within the limitations of the game - 16 x 16 x 16, with whatever tricks and mechanisms you can imagine in that space. It's... creation, that's what it is. I'll never be Michelangelo, and I wouldn't want to be - but building / creating is fun, satisfying.
