      This is not a challenge, it's an exercise to illustrate new tricks for beginners to advance their skills!

      For more tutorials, see here.

      This tutorial focuses on jumping gaps and exploring some quirks in zappers. The zapper quirks were first demonstrated by @retrograde in his groundbreaking challenge, Deadly Serious.

      Lesson 1 - zapper bots short circuit when they turn 180°.
      Wait for R to reach the end of the passageway where B is stranded. While R is making his 180° turn, B can safely step on his zapper and over to the metal block!

      Lesson 2 - even zapper bots can play their part in an autopilot route.
      With B on the metal block from Lesson 1, wait until R fills the gap between the two inverted step blocks. When he does, tap the stone pillar in the opposite wall, setting a U-shaped route.

      Although we're using a zapper bot to temporarily fill a gap in a route, this is just an extreme example of the familiar autopilot technique first covered in Tutorial 1.

      This lesson is repeated for the next step. With B now on the stone pillar, tap the brick block as R fills the gap between the two grass blocks. You'll notice that by the time B gets to the gap, R is well clear and his zapper is safely out of range.

      Lesson 3 - zapper bots also short circuit for 90° turns.
      I believe @B Hill first used this exploit in his excellent level, Hot Foot. Notice that R corners himself in a tiny room, making a series of right-turns one after the other. Start this stage with B on the single brick block. When R comes around again and turns right in front of B, you can tap on his zapper and take a piggyback ride for a block or two, stepping off at the metal pillar. Wait for R to come around again, and hitch a final ride to the goal in the same way.

      Excellent tutorial! Not only have you captured well the lessons in the design, your write up is very clearly written. I also hugely applaud the references tying past concepts together and even managing a credit to others. Well done and thank you!

      @nGord - Thanks, you're very kind!

      Another excellent level. I'm just having trouble finishing the final part, from the brick to the metal pillar - I'm not quick enough, I guess.

      @D.S.Masters - thanks for the feedback! Try different points of view for those final steps - the "free camera" setting is very useful here.

      Thanks! We're doing this on family here and that's wonderful. Great job! Always waiting for the next step (do you feel pressure?) :D

      @Gepeto - LOL! Well now I do feel the pressure... Actually, I'm not sure what to put into the next one. Any ideas?

      Glad you're enjoying them as a family, thanks for the feedback.

      @trids Yeah, it took me long enough to figure out the 'free camera' setting when I first started playing this - there isn't exactly a manual.

      Something else to mention in a tutorial, maybe, is how you can get B on to a higher block by 'squeezing' him between two blocks.

      @D.S.Masters - yes, the squeeze! Thanks, I'll definitely include that.

      Using the free camera setting makes this and other levels easy, but I finally finished this one by expanding the level to fill the screen... and as soon as I got the check mark, I dumped that card. :confused:
    • trids
      @D.S.Masters - oh dear! Back to the drawing board then. But think of it as an opportunity to practise your new skills!
      :p

      @trids Don't worry, I kept your first two. :)

      Two other things I thought of - one is how B can change orientation, such as in the original level 'The Cube' (#32), where rotating the level or part of it gets B to some place where he might not reach otherwise. Another is where B can get from one surface to another, even if they're not even, such as Jordy's 'The factory' (mekoramaforum.com/media/the-factory.1623), where B is 'forced' on to another block (the long 'windmill' arm). Maybe these are fairly basic, but there's no real manual for the game - it could be a good forum discussion or FAQ, or part of your tutorials.

      I'm struggling with R.
      At Lesson 1 sometimes it works and sometimes 1 get electrified short after I stepped on R or after the first step R does with me on his head or when I step over to the round metallblock(side). Alltogether it is more a matter of luck than a reliable skill I have learned.
      Same problem trying lesson 3 of course, there I fail all the time, didn't get to the endpoint after hours of trying ...

      There may be sort of rule, that I don't understand, to work with help of R?
    • trids
      @Sorella M. - It's important that R should start to turn before you exploit him. At the first step, tap on the metal block directly; don't risk wasting time by tapping on the zapper first then the metal block. B must move decisively here.

      But don't give up - it's all a matter of timing,not luck.
      ;)
