Star Penguin

Room 404

We're sorry, the room you have requested does not exist. Without a home, B wanders aimlessly around, through, and on top of the apartments... (hints provided in caption, one trick is needed)

I apologize for having to take down and reupload this level. @nGord found a whole bunch of shortcuts that needed fixing. Thanks to him for his patient and persistent testing! If you had downloaded an earlier version, please make sure to play the current one to make sure you didn't utilize one of the shortcuts. ;) Again, sorry about that.

I know what everyone is going to rave about so I'll be different up front. Still, I think to mention anything would be a spoiler, so here goes:
Well apart from the ending that was more of a pray and jump routine, I frankly liked all the little touches more. I liked the requirement to drop a ball early in the level so that it can be used much later. I liked needing to get B to push in something on one side of a building only to get something else to help him on the other side. And I"m a big fan of tunnels and that included the pass-through from the front to the back of the level.
I'm glad that I was able to find three shortcuts more than @Block builder in the first upload of this level. And I'm happy to have the honour to be the first to review. Truly another well balanced level that had a lot to explore and path planning to consider, all in a compact and attractive design again. Thank you for your masterpieces!

I definitely needed the hints on 2 counts.
1 - I knew B needed to go over the ball in the water to release R but couldn't see how. 2 - How to get B or R to the win. I knew that R would climb up if stable enough but not B. I would never have considered the winning move - NEVER.
Thanks for the great game play.

Amazing level. I think it is one of the most complex levels you have created but the great designed path, the clever logic used and its visual design convert the level in another masterpice.
      Thanks!

Well I can't agree on that and loved the level, with it providing an accumulated setup for different execution of a trick.

Wedge, rail, block, it doesn't matter. When they are 1 tile up from the floor, bots get jammed/frozen. The wedge has been used in many other levels already, and is a signature element of Star Penguin. To me it creates some original setup possibilities. And surely a bot just walking up against something and stopping is more intuitive than many of the tricks out there like claustrophobia, autopilot, springboard stairs, etc. I can value below average ratings with good arguments and for keeping rating inflation at bay, but I'm not with you here @Don G Rowe.

      | I've solved the previous versions of this level strenuously and even with the hints, I can't grasp the logic in full (or almost). I'm sad to see a 2-star rating for this level as I myself was very impressed by the "new" usage of bots and autopilot. I like acrobatics and we know that B is truly an acrobat. If this level could be rated with 2-stars, therefore, the rest of my levels would be rated with 1-star based on that standard :(

      @Block builder
PillR isn't just blocked or frozen here, it gets wedged into a space and immobilized. I would never have thought that to be intentional. If that's a signature move, it shouldn't be.

@laurence.gr I'm just admonishing @Star Penguin for what I feel is "being just a bit too clever this time out." A 2 for him is my 3 for anyone else. ;)

      Really nice level and puzzle!
I confess I had to go to the hints because I was on the same path as @gmacpro, I wasn't expecting that last move!
I don't think I can say more than what @nGord said and I agree about the details and the design, very clever!
@Don G Rowe, I'm in no position to ask you to change your rating as it is quite personal, but I think new tricks that are easy to use, easy to pull and easy to reproduce should be appreciated, I have used the trick (in Copy, Paste, Win) so it's not even a new trick for me, and it wasn't hard to figure out for anyone playing the level. Don't you think you were just a little too hard? Imagine a newcomer rating one of your levels with autopilot or springboard stairs with a low rating because he/she is not familiar with the trick, I don't know, I think low ratings should be reserved for poorly designed levels or tricks that are too dependent on skill, counter intuitive tricks may deserve one less star, but three?
It's still your rating so I'll respect your decision to leave it like that, just sharing my opinion about the ratings...

Very fun level with a lot of smart steps. I especially liked the last step. Great job!

Another great logic level with nice clean design and path without any randomness or hiddenness in gameplay also liked the last step , WD again:thumbsup:

Played again this morning. I still think there are some flaws, but also think my original score was a bit harsh.

I have a serious problem:cry:. The auto-pilot stops most of the time to reach the last ball:oops:, and B stops above the metal block that comes out!:oops:
    • nGord
@hadi - Did you click far enough for Autopilot? Remember, Autopilot only copies the number of steps that would have been made at the lower elevation.
You need a Pillar-R bot to help you out to get to the last ball, i.e. the one on the middle roof.

@nGord I overcame the problem. I understood the solution. But I still have trouble with using the second Pillar-R:confused:

  • The trick needed is: exploiting Autopilot
    1. To climb the slider at the front of the tallest building
    2. To perform jumps using the slider at the front of the tallest building
    3. To push in the window at the back of the tallest building (also known as Hercules, but really a variation on Autopilot )
Two balls need to be pushed before anything else. B pushes only one of the, someone else pushes the other.
There are three different jumps that need to be pulled off, all starting from the same position (on the slider in front of the tallest building). There may be some intermediate steps that need to be done in between the jumps. ;)
    1. The first jump works after a certain ball has been pushed to serve as a landing spot for B. By tapping the end of the stone ledge and then quickly raising the slider, B will perform a simple fall.
    2. The second jump requires pillar-R to be stuck under a wedge, and the aforementioned window must also be pushed in. By tapping on pillar-R and then quickly raising the slider, B will reach new heights.
    3. The third jump requires a second pillar-R to be stuck trying to walk into the space under the first pillar-R's head. By tapping on the second pillar-R and then quickly raising the slider, B will perform some daring acrobatics. ;)
